Danish Police Close Investigation into Death During Open Water Race

The East Jutland Police department in Denmark has finalized their investigation into the death of a 52-year old woman during an open water race in August, concluding that it was a “tragic accident” and that the event organizers will have no charges filed against them criminally or otherwise.

Danish Swimming Federation director Pia Holmen said (paraphrased translation) that while she feels that the evidence would clearly clear organizers of any wrong-doing, but that the police conclusion in no way makes the organization take lightly the safety measures at upcoming events. She says that they will continue to focus on possible actions that might increase safety measures at future races.
