A total of 5 Italian Records fell on night 5 of the 2018 FINA Short Course World Championships, including an individual women’s 200m IM mark, courtesy of Ilaria Cusinato. While competing in tonight’s final, the 19-year-old fired off a new lifetime best of 2:06.17 to finish in 5th place overall.

Although Cusinato slid a spot from 4th to 5th between the prelim and final, she managed to dip under the previous supersuited record of 2:06.21 that’s been on the books since 2009. In doing so, the Italian moves up to 23rd among the fastest performers of all-time in the SCM edition of the women’s 200m IM.

Winning the race tonight was IM powerhouse Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, with Americans Melanie Margalis and Kathleen Baker finishing on the podium in silver and bronze, respectively with times of 2:04.62 and 2:05.54.

Cusinato’s 200m IM feat earns the budding teen her first SCM individual Italian National Senior Record.
