Crayne, Duff Sweep Conference USA Swim weekly awards

The Western Kentucky University swimming and diving team swept the Conference USA Swim weekly awards after Amy Crayne earned Diver of the Week and Allie Duff was named Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The duo, along with their Lady Topper teammates, is recently coming off a 195-102 win at Cincinnati last Saturday.

The honors come as the first of the season for WKU swim and dive but also as the first C-USA awards for WKU athletics, as the program is competing in the league this year as an affiliate before WKU joins as an official member in July 2014.

Crayne, originally from Rio Linda, Calif., remains undefeated in dual meets after sweeping the Bearcats on both diving boards. The freshman once again hit NCAA Zone Championship qualifying marks after posting a score of 267.88. She also took the top mark in the three-meter dive with 271.43 points.

A native of Ontario, Canada, Duff earned four wins in last weekend’s victory, breaking three pool records in the process. In the meet’s opening 200 medley relay, Duff and her teammates set a new Keating Aquatic Center record mark of 1:44.05. The junior followed that win up with three individual titles, setting new pool records in both backstrokes. Duff won the 100 back in 56.67 and the 200 back in 2:01.84, which also holds as the fastest time in Conference USA this season. She closed out the meet with the top time in the 200 IM, clocking in at 2:05.24.

WKU returns to Bill Powell Natatorium for the Hilltopper Invite on Nov. 21-23 where they will take on Akron, Illinois State, University of the Cumberlands and Missouri-Rolla.
