Texas divers Cory Bowersox, Murphy Bromberg and Emma Ivory-Ganja claimed national titles in their respective synchronized diving events Sunday to close out the 2014 AT&T National Diving Championships.
Bromberg and Ivory-Ganja teamed up to claim the women’s platform synchronized diving event with 305.16 points. Bromberg wins her second national crown in as many days after winning the individual platform event on Saturday.
“We were really happy with our three optionals, but we need to work on our voluntaries a little more,” Bromberg told USA Diving.
Bowersox teamed up with former Miami diver Zachary Nees to claim a narrow win in the men’s three-meter synchronized event with 407.13 points. Bowersox and Nees edged SMU diver Bryce Klein and Stanford diver Bradley Christensen by 1.35 points.
“We knew we needed to go big on our 4 1/2 (somersault) to stay in the contest,” Bowersox said. “I knew we needed about 87 points, and I was pretty nervous. That was the contest right there, and we just had to stay calm and do the dive.”
UT sophomore Mark Anderson added a runner-up finish in the men’s individual platform event with 442.90 points. Texas-Ex Maren Taylor placed seventh in the women’s three-meter finals with 308.3 points. Ivory-Ganja placed 10th in the same event with 292.95 points.
