Colby-Sawyer Athletic Director George Martin has announced the hiring of Conrad “Connie” Kohrs Jr. as the new Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving programs.

Kohrs becomes the third head coach in the history of the program. He joins Colby-Sawyer after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach and team manager at the University of Hawai‘i.

“I am inspired by the nature of student-athletes attracted to the holistic learning environment and pervasive complexities of the natural world at Colby-Sawyer,” said Kohrs. “We have a unique opportunity to learn, grow and achieve as a team, to create an atmosphere of deep practice and performance that any student/swimming athlete or coach would want to join. My gratitude goes out to the search committee and Athletic Director George Martin for their trust and confidence in this vision.”

“I am pleased to announce that Connie will be the next Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach at Colby-Sawyer College,” said Martin. “Connie has extensive coaching experience at many levels of competitive swimming and diving both nationally and internationally. His creative ideas on training and his passion for swimming and diving will excite our student-athletes and will help them improve upon their performances. We are delighted to welcome Connie to the Colby-Sawyer community and look forward to him working with our student athletes and growing our Swimming and Diving programs.”

Kohrs earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and swam for the NCAA Division III National Champions (1980-2010, ’13-’15) at Kenyon College.

Prior to his stint at Hawai’i, he spent 2012-2014 as the International Olympic Committee expert coach in residence for the Federated States of Micronesia and was meet director for the 2014 Micronesian Games, on the island of Pohnpei in FSM.

From 1997 to 2012, Kohrs was the owner, president and coach at ConKohrs Barracudas in Carmel, California where he coached USA Open qualifiers, USA Senior National, USA Junior National finalists and qualifiers, International North American Challenge Cup finalists, Grand Prix qualifiers, and USA Sectional finalists and qualifiers.

During the same time period, Kohrs was the head coach at Carmel High School. Under his tutelage, the team won 10 Mission Trail Athletic League championships and produced several All-Americans.

Kohrs also spent time with California State University-Monterey Bay, Team Santa Monica, and the Maui Swim Club.
