Cleveland State Swimming and Diving Edge Canisius

MEN

The Cleveland State men’s swimming and diving team hosted Canisius on Tuesday (Dec. 2) at the Busbey Natatorium. The Viking men beat Canicius 126-117.

Sophomore Danny Roberts started the day off in the 1-meter dive where he finished first with a score of 301.43. The men’s 200-yard medley relay team, consisted of Jonathon LaValle, Declan McLaughlin, Adam Ingledew, and Robert Tolson, finished first with a time of 1:35.85. Philipp Sikatzki placed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.34. Gage Alleman claimed first place in the 200-yard IM with a winning time of 1:57.61. Patrick Walsh placed first in the 200-yard fly (1:57.66) with Andrew Krueger just behind in second place (1:58.08). In the 100-yard free, Robert Tolson placed first with a time of 47.58. Declan McLaughlin took second (47.76). Jonathon LaValle placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:56.06.

The men were tied going into the final race as the Vikings finished off the day by placing first in the 200-yard freestyle relay to seal the victory. Robert Tolson, Philipp Sikatzki, Declan McLaughlin, and Adam Ingledew combined to take first with a final time of 1:25.09.

“It is always interesting during the last week of the classes to see where they are at mentally. Before the meet started, we asked for 100-minutes of focus. We were hit and miss. Very pleased with how the ladies performed. The men need to be able to concentrate more as the season progresses,” said Head Coach Paul Graham following the meet.

Five Viking swimmers will be back in the pool at the USA Winter National Championship. Madisen Tretter, Phillip Brittain, Philipp Sikatzki, Gage Alleman, and Adam Ingledew will travel to Greenville, North Carolina from Thursday-Saturday (Dec. 4-6). This is an all day event throughout the three days.

WOMEN

The Cleveland State women’s swimming and diving team hosted Canisius on Tuesday (Dec. 2) at the Busbey Natatorium. The Viking women beat the Golden Griffins 130-109.

Sammie Sposet started the day off in the 1-meter dive where she finished first with a score of 241.58. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Bethany Robertson took first (10:48.54) with Jodi Turk behind her (10:52.39) to place second. Kayley Chevalier claimed first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:14.12 with Liz Tamas shortly behind in second (2:14.57). Meghan Miller won the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:09.49. In the 100-yard freestyle, Liz Tamas had a winning time of 55.73. Hayley Smith placed first with a time of 2:11.07 in the 200-yard backstroke.
