Christopher Hardt and Chase Travis win 5 events each over first two days of NASA Showcase Classic

Aquastar 12-year-old Christopher Hardt and Delaware Swim Team 12-year-old Chase Travis won 5 events each to lead all swimmers after two days of the NASA Showcase Classic in Clearwater, Florida.

The Showcase meet pits swimmers against only other swimmers their age, with heats for 10-year-olds, 11-year-olds, 12-year-olds, 13-year-olds and 14-year-olds, plus a 9&under division.

Hardt won the 200 back (1:58.65), 50 breast (28.36), 200 IM (2:02.14), 200 fly (2:00.27) and 50 back (25.57) in the 12-year-old bracket. The only events he didn’t win in that age group were the 50 and 500 frees.

Travis did her damage over longer distances. The youngster won the 500 free (4:55.00) and 1000 free (10:02.55) for a distance sweep, plus added wins in the 200 back (2:02.04), 200 IM (2:04.63) and 200 fly (2:04.15).

9-year-old Jaeddan Gamilla, 13-year-old Kimani Gregory, and 11-year-old Colton Frantz each won 4 races apiece to lead their respective age groups after two days.

Gamilla competes in the 10&under boys category for Naperville, Illinois-based Maverick Swim Club. On day 1, he took the 50 back (30.50) and 100 breast (1:13.52), and Friday night, he added wins in the 100 IM (1:05.85) and 50 fly (28.52).

Gregory, meanwhile, swims in the 13-year-old boys age group for the Pittsburgh Stingrays. He swept the 50s of the odd strokes on day 1, going 26.86 to take the 50 breast and 21.56 to win the 50 free. On day 2, he added another 50-yard win (a 25.70 in the 50 back) and a 200 IM title in 1:58.71.

11-year-old Frantz took home four titles in his age bracket. The Sarasota YMCA Shark paced the distance races, going 10:30.36 in the 1000 free and 5:09.14 in the 500. He would also add wins in the 50 breast (31.24) and 50 free (25.36).

Several more swimmers put up 3 individual wins apiece.

In the 11-year-old girls age group, Joy Jiang has been on fire. She won the 200 IM (2:08.52), 200 fly (2:09.37) and 200 back (2:04.25). That age group has been dominated by some huge battles between Jiang and Asia Minnes, who has two wins to her credit. Minnes was second behind Jiang in the 200 back and 200 IM, and topped her head-to-head for a 50 back win with a 26.76. Minnes also won the 50 breast with a 30.68.

For 13-year-old girls, NCAP’s Katelyn Mack has been the story. The youngster took home the 200 back (1:58.89) and 50 free (23.49) on day 1, plus the 200 IM (2:01.93) on day 2.

Max Hardt, the sentence “the only events did not win etc.” although maybe correct but is misleading since he could not swim those events because he can only swim so many events. His personal bests show that he could also possibly win those events too. Max is an all around swimmer.
