Apparently Ye Shiwen can only swim the 50 at the end of a 400 IM. The 15-year-old Chinese star, who in London brought her last 50 of the 400 I.M. home faster than Ryan Lochte, failed to podium in the individual 50 free at Chinese Nationals this week. Her time of 25.74 put her fourth, only a few tenths behind winner Yin Fan who went 25.26. In addition to the 50, Ye Shiwen swam the 200 breast and finished eighth. She told China Daily that the quick turnaround between this and the Olympics led her to choose off events. Olympic 200 fly champion Jiao Liuyang also swam and was beaten in off events.

Sun Yang, on the other hand, dove right back into his main events and has collected three golds so far in the 200, 400, and 1,500 free. His time of 14:50.30 was 16 seconds slower than his world record but still very impressive to do just a month after London. In fact, he’s had another meet in between: the National University Games in Tianjin. “I really feel a little tired because this is my second event in September,” Sun told China Daily after going 1:45.9 in the 200 free.
