Cassie Ward, who swims for the Gaston Gators in Gastonia, North Carolina, as well as Forestview High School, decommitted from Marshall University and signed with Gardner-Webb University.

“I’m happy I decided to take two more recruiting trips. As soon as I stepped on campus I knew this was the place I wanted to be. The team is a family and the coaches are amazing. I couldn’t have found a better place to call home for the next four years.”

The 2014-15 Big South 3A Swimmer of the Year specializes in backstroke and IM. Her best events are:

  • 200 yard back: 1:59.42
  • 100 yard back: 57.04
  • 200 yard IM: 2:06.94

Ward’s 200 back time is 1.4 seconds faster than the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ school record, and would have placed her in the A final at 2015 CCSA Conference Championships. Her best 100 back time would have made the B final, while her 200 IM would have qualified her for the C final.
