Canadian Juniors Standout Starzomski Commits to Michigan State

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Olivia Starzomski, the 2018 Swim Canada Junior Champion in the 100 breast, has committed to bring her skills across the border to swim for Michigan State beginning in the fall of 2020.

“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to Michigan State University,” Starzomski said. “I would like to thank coaches Matt [Gianodis] and Kathleen [Milloy] for this great opportunity! Without the support of my coaches and family, this opportunity would not have been possible. I’m looking forward to being a Spartan and enjoying everything that Michigan State Swimming & Diving has to offer me.”

Most recently, Starzomski finished third in the 200 breast (2:36.05) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:13.06) at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships in April.

The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native was fourth in the timed finals of the 50 breast (34.50) at the Canadian Swimming Trials (LCM) in April, while also placing in the Top 20 in the 100 breast (19th, 1:12.20), 200 breast (16th, 2:33.42) and 200 IM (13th, 2:28.97).

In July 2018, Starzomski was crowned Swim Canada Junior Champion in the 200 breast (2:34.40), while also earning the runnerup spot in the 100 breast (1:11.87). That followed a first place effort in the 200 breast (2:37.91) and second place finish in the 100 breast (1:13.97) at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships that April.

At the 2017 Canadian Junior Championships, Starzomski was first in the 200 breast (2:37.87) and third in the 100 breast (1:14.06).

Starzomski, who swims for the Sault Surge Aquatic Team, moved to Toronto in February to attend the Ontario Swimming Academy full time.
