Cal Gets In-State Verbal from California State Runner-Up Jarod Hatch

Morgan Hill, California’s Jarod Hatch has verbally committed to the University of California, Berkeley for the 2017-18 season. Hatch told SwimSwam:

“I just wanted to share my commitment to Berkeley. I’m so excited to join such an elite program and train with some of the best in the country when it comes to the staff and teammates.”

Hatch is a senior at Ann Sobrato High School who specializes in mid-distance freestyle, fly and IM. He was runner-up in both the 200 free (1:37.19) and 500 free (4:27.76) at the 2016 CIF-Central Coast Section Championships, before going on to place second in the 500 (4:26.73) and third in the 200 (1:37.49) a week later at the California State meet.

Hatch swims year-round with Santa Clara Swim Club. He competed in the 200/400m free, 100/200m fly, and 200m IM at 2016 Speedo Summer Junior Nationals, earning PBs in the 100/200m free and 200 IM at the meet. Also during this past long-course season he lowered his times in the 50/400m free, 100/200m fly, and 400m IM. His best SCY times are:

  • 100 free – 45.57
  • 200 free – 1:37.19
  • 500 free – 4:26.73
  • 100 fly – 49.64
  • 200 fly – 1:47.05
  • 200 IM – 1:50.65

Hatch joins Daniel Carr, James Daugherty, and Ryan Hoffer who have also verbally committed to the Golden Bears for 2017-18.
