Caitlin Cockcroft Stays In-State, Commits to UNC-Wilmington

Sprint freestyler and butterflier Caitlin Cockcroft will be competing for the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks as a part of their class of 2019.

SCY Bests:

50y free – 24.16

100y free – 52.64

100y fly – 57.58

LCM bests:

50m free – 27.51

100m free – 1:00.75

100m fly – 1:05.18

Cockcroft has improved from her sophomore to junior years. As a sophomore, she was 24.40 in the 50 free, 53.71 in the 100 free, and 59.06 in the 100 fly. Her long course times from this past summer are evident of more improvement. In long course, she dropped over a second in the 100m fly and 100m free from last summer, and over three tenths in the 50m free.

She will be very important to the Seahawks’ sprint group, as her 50 free and 100 fly would’ve been fourth on their 2013-14 top times list, while her 100 free would’ve been second. Last year, it took a 56.83 in the 100 fly, 23.68 in the 50 free, and 51.47 to make the finals at the CAA Championships. Cockcroft is on the cusp of these times currently, and by the end of next year, she may be able to score points as a freshman.

Cockcroft joins Meagan Johnson on the Seahawks class of 2019 roster.
