BYU Picks Up Verbal from 2021 Juniors Qualifier Mackenzie Miller for 2022

Mackenzie Miller of Sanger, CA has verbally committed to swim for Brigham Young University beginning in the 2022-2023 season. The breaststroke specialist is a junior at Clovis East High School and she swims year-round for the Clovis Swim Club.

Miller is a California CIF Central Section bronze medalist. In 2019 as a freshman at Clovis East High School, she qualified for the meet in the 200 IM and 100 breast. Miller made it back in the A-final of the 100 breast after touching second in prelims, and she swam in the B-final of the 200 IM. She went 1.2 seconds faster in finals in the 200 IM, moving from 15th to 11th with her time of 2:17.26.

She went a 1:04.78 in finals of the 100 breast to earn the bronze medal. She went personal best times in both events. Miller swam the breaststroke leg of her school’s 200 medley relay, splitting a 50 breast time of 29.74.

In December of 2019 Miller competed at the 2019 West Winter Junior National Championships. She swam the 100 breast, finishing 29th (1:03.16). She currently has 2021 Summer Juniors qualifying times in the 100-meter and 100-yard breast and the 200-meter breast. She qualifying for the 2021 Winter Juniors in the 200-yard breast.

  • 100 breast – 1:02.40
  • 200 breast – 2:16.02
  • 200 IM – 2:08.69

BYU was the runner-up at the 2021 MPSF Championships, finishing second to the University of Hawaii. Sophomore Katie McBratney was named MPSF Swimmer of the Year after breaking two conference records at the meet and winning three individual gold medals. She went on to finish 42nd in the 100 breast at the 2021 NCAA DI Champs.

Miller’s top times would have earned her bronze medals in the 100 and breast at the 2021 conference meet. She will be joining sprinter Julia Bartell as a member of the Cougars’ class of 2026.

I am so proud if this young lady. Did not swim club until after her freshman year. A fast riser no doubt. From 32.8 50 breast as an 8th grader! Way to go Mac and I can’t wait to see how far you can take this.
