Burchill Leads Carmel To 200 Freestyle Relay National HS Record Without Star Sprinter Amy Bilquist

Carmel High School just broke their third National High School Relay record of the meet with a time of 1:30.72. The relay team of Veronica Burchill, Claire Adams, Kendall Smith, and Trude Rothrock combined for the win. This was the third national record of the meet and the 13th state record of the meet. 12 of the state records have been set by Carmel high school over the two day meet, with three events to go.

The most impressive part of this relay is that their star sprinter, Amy Bilquist, was not on the relay. If you add in her 21.55 freestyle split from the 200 medley relay, they could have been pushing a 1:28.

Even without Bilquist they were able to hold their own, however, thanks to junior Veronica Burchill. She led off with a time of 22.29.

Here are the splits from their record breaking swim:

  • Veronica Burchill – 22.29
  • Claire Adams – 22.53
  • Kendall Smith – 22.77
  • Trude Rothrock – 23.13
