SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men’s swimming and diving senior Shane Vyskocil (Parsippany, N.J.) has been named the Northeast Co-Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Vyskocil posted a perfect 4.0 GPA and is sharing the award with LIU’s Frank Cerillo and St. Francis Brooklyn’s Nicholas Nemergut. He is just the second male student-athlete in Bryant history to win the award.

In its 13th year, the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which is sponsored by the league’s Faculty Athletic Representatives, goes to the male and female student-athletes who have exhausted their athletic eligibility, graduated and compiled the highest grade point average in the Conference at the conclusion of the academic calendar.

“What a magnificent achievement by these seven men and women,” said NEC Commissioner Noreen Morris. “It takes a great deal of ability and commitment to attain a 4.0 GPA while also meeting the demands of Division I athletics. These scholar-athletes are extremely deserving of this recognition.”

Earlier this year, Vyskocil became the first swimmer in DI program history to earn Academic All-District honors after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Politics and Law major. In addition to helping the Bulldogs to their best finish ever at the MAAC Championships, Vyskocil was named the Bryant Athletics Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and received the Political Science Award, the George J. Kelley Award and a President’s List Sash during Commencement.
