Brits Fox & Craig Break IPC World Records at National Short Course Championships

At the DSE National Short Course Championships in Sheffield over the weekend, a trio of Britain’s disability swimming superstars crushed their own IPC World Records. That was in addition to a slew of National Records, as the British team is looking incredibly strong,  headed towards the hosted 2015 IPC World Championships that they will host in 2015 in Glasgow (they just launched the event’s website this week).

The event was run as a “multi-class” event, where swims were effectively normalized against their respective World Records to determine one winner, across all classes, in each stroke and distance.

The first record went to the Jon Fox in the  men’s 100 backstroke. He won gold with his swim of 1:08.51, and in the process blew-away his own World Record of 1:09.82 set at this summer’s World Championship Trials. He’s the defending Paralympic Champion in that event, and he was followed in the race by Aaron Moores, who was an S12 record of 1:02.08.

In the men’s 400 free, Josef Craig lowered his only World Record in the 400 free with a 4:34.88. That demolished his old World Record of 4:39.14 set at this summer’s World Championships. Craig also won the 100 free with a best time of 1:01.48, the 50 free, and the 50 fly, all of which come at only 16 years old.
