British Synchro Swimmers Ready for Olympic Qualifying Test

Synchronised Swimmers Katie Clark and Olivia Federici have been named as the Duet that travels to Rio to compete in the Olympic Test event with the aim of securing the vital quota place for Great Britain.

London Olympians Clark and Federici will compete in the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre which will host the Olympic Synchronised Swimming Qualification Tournament from the 2 – 6 March. The newly refurbished Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre is situated at the heart of the Rio 2016 Olympic Park which is on the south side of the Brazilian capital.

The competition will see the pair compete to secure a place for Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Games this summer in the Duet event.

Clark and Federici will look to build on the strong competitive start to 2016. January’s German Open saw the athletes compete internationally for the first time since 2013 and showed their progress just a week later when they competed for the second time at the French Open.

The British Synchro Team Leader Karen Thorpe has noted the strong early season form and said: “Katie and Olivia have had an extremely positive start to the season in their bid to qualify for the Olympics.

“The qualification event in Rio will be a challenge for us. We will need to be at our very best on that day in Brazil but both Katie and Olivia have worked really hard since returning to the pool and their progress is evident every day.

“They have just returned from working with Olympic medallist Andrea Fuentes in Majorca and I know this will have added greatly to their routines.”

The athletes spent time in Majorca finalising their preparations ahead of their departure for Rio de Janeiro on the 27th February.
