British Stars Take On Ontario Athletes At Swim England Winter C’ships

2018 SWIM ENGLAND NATIONAL WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield

  • Draft Entry List

With just 3 British stars in Ben Proud, Georgia Davies and Mark Szaranek competing in Hangzhou at the FINA Short Course World Championships, most of the English contingency is available to race at the Swim England Winter Championships this weekend. That includes powerhouse athletes such as James Guy, Sarah Vasey, Molly Renshaw and James Wilby. Olympians and National Record holders Jocelyn Ulyett, Siobhan Marie O’Connor and Max Litchfield are also among the GBR swimmers on the entry list.

Making the transition back to meters from yards is Ealing’s Anna Hopkin, who has been tearing up the pool stateside as a University of Arkansas Razorback in the NCAA. She currently ranks 3rd in the NCAA in the 50y free in 21.64 and 4th in the 100y free in 47.05, so we’ll see how the 22-year-old fares in SCM mid-season here in Sheffield if she indeed competes.

But the British athletes will have their hands full with a Canadian squad ready to rumble, including Olympic champion Penny Oleksiak. The teen is entered in 6 individual events, including the 50m/100m/200m fly, the 100m/200m free, as well as the 100m IM. She’ll be joined by fellow HPC-Ontario swimmers Yuri Kisil, Kayla Sanchez and Kierra Smith, among others.
