Brazilians de Paula, Marcal Advance To Women’s 100 Fly Semi-Finals

Brazilians Daynara de Paula and Daiene Marcal have both advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 100 fly. de Paula won the 3rd heat in a personal best time of 57.92, while Marcal was 4th in the 5th heat. The 3rd heat was the last non-circle seeded heat, as the top 24 seeded swimmers were in heats 4-6. de Paula managed to get into the semi-finals by posting the 14th fastest time of the morning, as the top 16 advanced. de Paula was seeded 25th coming into the event with a time of 58.38. Marcal tied for 15th overall with Japan’s Natsumi Hoshi in 58.15, as they snagged the final two positions heading into the semis. Marcal was entered with a time of 58.04 and came in seeded 17th. As the 14th seed de Paula will swim in the first semi-final tonight in lane 1, while Marcal and Hoshi will both swim in lane eight in both semi-finals, but who goes where has yet to be decided.
