Ievgenii Bogodaiko set a new SM7 200-meter individual medley IPC World Record on Tuesday night at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

Bogodaiko, who swims internationally for Ukraine, swam the SM7 200-meter individual medley in Rio on Tuesday night. Bogodaiko set the IPC world record, set previously by Bogodaiko at the 2012 London Paralympic Games, by nearly two and a half seconds. The old record stood at 2:33.13; Bogodaiko’s time on Tuesday was 2:30.72. Bogodaiko split 30.81/38.97/44.15/36.79 in his record-breaking swim, leading the field from start to finish.

Bogodaiko has won Paralympic medals in both the S6 and S7 categories. Ievgenii won four medals at the London games, with two gold medals in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley, and two silver medals in the 100-meter backstroke and 50-meter butterfly. He has also won three other medals at the Rio games, with one of each color- a gold in the 100-meter backstroke, silver in the 50-meter freestyle, and bronze as a member of the mixed 4×50 freestyle relay.
