Blueseventy Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 10/30/19

Thanks to blueseventy, our presenting partner for  Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming  (October 25-27, 2019.).

Liam Smith, 17, Upper Dublin Aquatic Club (UDAC-MA): 500 free, 4:28.61 – A then-16-year-old Liam Smith finished 2017 with a best time of 4:40.27 in the 500 free. In February 2018, he dropped to 4:32.76, and then in December, 4:31.58. He took off another second in early 2019, and then last weekend, went 4:28.61, a new 2019 Winter Open Cut — his first.

Zoe Dixon, 15, NOVA of Virginia (NOVA-VA): 200 IM, 1:59.75 – Zoe Dixon finished out 2018 with a best time of 2:03.14 in the 200 IM. But in March 2019, she dropped to 2:02.14 and 2:00.05 in the same day. Then last weekend at the 2019 NOVA Senior Classic, she broke the two-minute barrier, going 1:59.75. At the same meet, she went additional lifetime bests in the 50, 1000, and 1650 free, 200 back, 100 breast and 200 IM.

Kayde Cross, 16, Parkway Swim Club (49.68): 100 back, 49.68 – Kayde Cross ended 2018 with a lifetime best of 50.57 in the 100 back. Through six swims earlier in 2019, he was never under 50.90. Then last weekend at the 2019 CSC Jim Devine Meet, he broke the 50-second barrier, going 49.68, and hitting a Summer Juniors cut.

Katie Christopherson, 13, US Aquatics Club (USAC-GA): 100 free, 53.98 – Thirteen-year-old Katie Christopherson held a best time of 56.06 in the 100 free heading into 2019. In February, she went 55.23 and 55.04 on the same day, then was 55.41 in September. Last weekend, she skipped the 54s altogether, going 53.98 at the 2019 War Eagle Invitational.

Connor Seminavage, 13, Hawaii Swimming Club (HSC-HI): 200 fly, 2:00.82 – A then 12-year-old Connor Seminavage went a lifetime best of 2:03.32 in the 200 fly in September 2018. In four swims earlier in 2019, he never went under 2:04. Then last weekend, at the 20th annual Bill Smith Invite, he went 2:00.82. He also went lifetime bests in the 200 free, 50 back, 200 back, 200 breast and 200 IM at the same meet.
