Blaha Earns Austria’s First Diving Medal Since 1987

London (LEN) – Great cheers erupted in the ‘Austrian corner’ of the venue after the last dive in the men’s 1m springboard event at the European Aquatics Championships. Constantin Blaha earned the bronze medal with 402.55 points and was very happy. “An international medal was a long time on the list of my desired successes, now I got it”, he stated after completing the series of six dives.
For the Austrian male divers it was the first medal in 29 years, when Nikola Stajkovic took the silver at the continental event in Strasbourg, six years after his bronze in Split, both in the 3m (Stajkovic currently supervises the show in the world’s top high diving events). The last gold for Austria dates back to 1962 when Kurt Mrkwicka clinched the 3m title.
Among the women Austria could catch the last medal in 2006 in Budapest when Anja Richter earned a silver in the platform, just before she finished her career.
