Lindsey Engel
Lindsey Engel is a 5’7″ sprinter from southern California. Engel is competing at Stanford University after graduating from Crean Lutheran in Trabuco Canyon, Calif. Although she’s currently undeclared on her major, she’s been leaning towards Engineering since her senior year at Crean Lutheran. Engel made national headlines her junior year when she broke the CIF-Southern Section Division III 50 freestyle record, which had been held by the great Dara Torres. She was also the first girl in Orange County history to break 49 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Her times in the 100 butterfly and backstroke as well as the sprint free events helped Engel to earn SwimSwam’s no. five spot in the 2014 recruiting class. Her verbal commitment was another huge grab for Stanford’s dominant recruiting class that included other headliners such as Janet Hu, Ally Howe and Simone Manuel.

2014-2015
As a freshman Engel finished 15th in the 50 freestyle at the Pac-12 Championships in addition to a seventh-place finish in the 100 butterfly and anchored the runner-up 200 freestyle relay. At the NCAA Championships she came in 37th in the 50 freestyle, 12th in the 100 butterfly earning All-America honors and 15th in the 200 butterfly.

National Competition
Swimming for Crean Lutheran, Engel was awarded The Register’s 2012 female swimmer of the year as a sophomore. She broke Orange County records in the 50 and 100 freestyle, breaking Dara Torres’ 50 freestyle record set 24 years prior. In the summer of 2013 she teamed up with her Waves teammates to break the National Age Group Record in the women’s 17-18 200m freestyle relay. Engel also competed at the 2014 Phillips 66 National Championship.

After breaking Torres’ record, Sports Illustrated featured Engel in their “Faces in the Crowd” segment.
