Kaitlynn Sims was ranked #18 in SwimSwam’s Top 20 NCAA Recruits for the class of 2019, and #7 in the Re-rank of that class.
On April 4, 2018, Sims announced her verbal commitment to the University of Michigan.

Sims was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year after finishing 3rd in the 1650 free (15:49.83), 4th in the 500 free (4:37.31) and 17th in the 200 free (1:47.22) at the Big Ten Championships in Iowa City, Iowa. Sims, a two-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week honoree, also was part of the Wolverines’ 3rd place 800 free relay team at the Big Ten meet.
