Julia Ama
Julia Ama was born in Brazil to parents, Lais and Ronaldo Ama. In the U.S. Ama attended Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto, Calif. Ama chose to stay in her own city and attend Stanford University – she’s currently a junior and is studying Mechanical Engineering. Ama is a freestyle and butterfly specialist, and has competed internationally for Brazil as well as in the U.S. In her busy life full of training and studying, Ama also currently works at GoPro. She was among the top 50 recruits in the state of California in the 2012 recruiting class.

Stanford University 
2012-2013
As a freshman Ama competed at the 2013 Pac-12 Championships, helping her team win their third conference title in the last four years. She finished 22nd in the 50 freestyle and helped the 200 freestyle relay come to a fourth-place finish. She also went best times in the 50, 100 freestyle as well as the 100 butterfly.

2013-2014
In Ama’s second year at Stanford she finished 23rd in the 50 freestyle at the Pac-12 Championships, 16th in the 100 freestyle touching in a best time, and 25th in the 100 butterfly. She earned Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention.

2014-2015
Ama is currently in her junior year as a Stanford Cardinal. She finished 19th in the 50 freestyle, 27th in the 100 butterfly and she won the ‘C’ final of the 100 freestyle swimming a best time.

International Competition
Since Ama is from Sao Paulo, Brazil she has represented her native country at the 2012 Singapore FINA World Cup and Brazil’s Olympic Trials. She finished eighth in the 50m butterfly at the World Cup, and was also a finalist at Brazil’s Olympic Trials.
