Jennie Johansson
Born June 15, 1988 in Hedemore, Sweden, Jennie Johansson is a sprint breaststroke specialist. Currently living in Stockholm, Johnasson trains under three main coaches, and trains in Australia three months of the year — Andrei Vorontzov, Carl Jenner and Christopher Mooney. Although Johansson made her Olympic debut in 2012, her ultimate goal is to win an Olympic medal in 2016. Johansson trains extremely hard both in the pool and the weight room, and when she’s not training she enjoys her coffee, shopping, decorating and the beach. Johansson has studied business, marketing and communications in university, and she hopes to work within marketing communications in the future.

Youth and early swimming
Although Johansson first began swimming at a young age, at about 10 years old, she didn’t take swimming seriously as a sport until she was 17. She decided to seriously train then, moving from four to 12 training sessions per week, and went on to win her first Junior Championship gold in the 100-meter breast. In the fall of 2006, the same year, Johansson won her first national championship in the 50 breast. Although her big success came in 2006, Johansson didn’t win an international medal until 2009.

2012 London Olympics
Johansson competed at the 2012 London Olympics as a member of Sweden’s Olympic Team. She swam the 100-meter breaststroke, and although she didn’t medal, Johansson was a semi-finalist.

European Championships
At the European Championship level Johansson has found a lot of success. Beginning in 2009 she won a bronze in the 100 short course breast, which was her first international medal. Since her first performance at the European Championships Johansson has won a total of four bronze medals and six silver medals in both short and long course championships in both the 100 and 50 meter breaststrokes.

2015 World Championships
At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan Johansson competed in her sprint breaststroke events. Although she has been a World Cup finalist in the past, Johansson has never finaled at a World Championships. In the 50-meter breast, qualified for the championship final, where she went into the final in fourth place. Johansson ended up winning the final in the 50 breast, beating current World Record holder Ruta Meilutyte who finished fourth. Johansson also was a championship finalist in the 100 breast, where she finished seventh. She also led Sweden to a silver medal finish in the 4×100 medley relay with a dominant split in the 100 breast.
