Jackson Goethe
Jackson Goethe is a freestyle specialist from Midland, Mich. After graduating from H.H. Dow High School Goethe chose to stay in-state – as the only Michigan native in the recruiting class – and swim for Head Coach Mike Bottom at the University of Michigan. He is currently a redshirt freshman studying medicine in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. Prior to verbally committing to Michigan, Goethe also checked out two other Big Ten schools – Indiana and Purdue. But born to two Michigan alum’s, Mark and Heather, Goethe would be a third-generation Wolverine (his grandfather was a student too), and he ultimately decided that Michigan was his perfect fit. He claims he’s been a Michigan fan his entire life, and he attended his first football game at age 3. Goethe has been swimming since the age of 9, but in his latter high school years he buckled down, and he trained more intensely in pursuit of an Olympic Trials cut. Goethe stands 6’6″ and was his high school JV team’s quarterback and wide receiver as a freshman and sophomore, but swimming is his true passion.
Michigan
2013-2014
Goethe redshirted his first year at Michigan.
2014-2015
Goethe is currently in his redshirt freshman season. He did not swim at the Big Ten Championships, but he competed in the dual meet season. Goethe made his collegiate debut at the meet against Indiana, Texas and Louisville.
National Competition
As a swimmer for H.H. Dow High School Goethe won back-to-back MHSAA D-II state championships in the 50 freestyle and won the 100 freestyle his senior year – he’s a four-time All-Saginaw Valley League selection. His senior year he was named the 2012-13 Saginaw News/MLive.com Swimmer of the Year and also earned All-America honors.
Competing for Kronos Aquatics, Goethe swam at the 2012 Junior National Championships, and he also qualified for the Speedo Sectionals meet from 2010 to 2013.
