Ivan Girev

Ivan Girev is a competitive swimmer who represents Russia internationally. He is an Olympic and world championships medalist.

2018 Short Course World Championships (Hangzhou, China)

Girev picked up a silver medal with Russia’s 4×200 free relay team, swimming the second leg in the preliminary heat (1:42.31) and the third leg in the finals (1:41.85).

Joining Girev in the finals to clock a European record 6:46.84 were Martin Malyutin, Mikhail Vekovishchev and Aleksandr Krasnykh. The Russians finished three hundredths of a second behind Brazil’s world record 6:46.81.

2019 World Championships (Gwangju, Korea)

Girev earned a silver medal with the Russian 4×200 free relay team after swimming the third leg (1:47.01) in the preliminary heat.

Martin Malyutin was the fourth member of the lineup in the finals, joining Mikhail Dovgalyuk, Mikhail Vekovishchev and Aleksandr Krasnykh. In the finals, Russia was the runnerup behind Australia (7:00.85), finishing nearly a second behind (7:01.81).

2020 Olympic Games

At his first Olympic Games, Girev started things in the 200 free, where he registered a 1:47.11, placing 24th in the prelims and out of the semifinal. Girev was back in the 4×200 free relay, splitting 1:45.63 on the 2nd leg to help Russia finish 2nd and earn a silver medal.
