Chris Klein
Chris Klein is a breaststroke specialist and NCAA qualifier, currently swimming for the University of Michigan. Klein is an Ann Arbor local – he competed for Club Wolverine before joining the Michigan squad. He’s in his sophomore year at Michigan, and is studying Mechanical Engineering in the college of Engineering. Klein graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, where he was the MHSAA D-II state champion in 200 IM and 100 breaststroke as a senior. Although he’s definitely a breaststroke specialist, Klein has also focused on the 200 IM for his third event. Born April 24, 1995 to parents, Michael and Gwen, Klein also emphasizes the academic side of being a student-athlete. In high school he was apart of the National Honor Society, and he has been named to the Academic All-Big Ten team and earned a U-M Athletic Academic Achievement nod. Klein had a standout summer 2013 season, which started his successful sophomore season on the right foot. In the 2013 recruiting class, Klein was the second-ranked recruit in the state of Michigan.

Michigan
2013-2014
As a freshman Klein made an immediate impact at the conference level – he finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke, 10th in the 100 breaststroke and 17th in the 200 IM. He also competed at the AT&T Winter Nationals, where he finished 12th in the 200 breaststroke.

2014-2015
Klein is currently in his sophomore season as a Michigan Wolverine. He qualified for the 2015 NCAA Championships, finishing 24th in the 200 breaststroke and 35th in the 100 breaststroke. At the Big Ten Championships, he finished sixth in the 100 and won the ‘B’ final of the 200 breaststroke. At the AT&T Winter Nationals, he finaled in both breaststroke events.

National Competition
As a swimmer at Ann Arbor Pioneer, Klein was a five-time All-American and was named Swimmer of the Championships at the 2013 MHSAA D-II State Championships. At the state championships his senior year, Klein broke the division two record in the 100 breaststroke – he also won two individual events, which helped his high school come to a second-place finish overall. It was also the first time that Ann Arbor Pioneer competed in the D-II Championship.
