Arina Openyshiva

Arina Openyshiva is a Russian competitive swimmer. She came to the United States when she was 18 to swim for the University of Louisville.

2013 European Youth Olympic Festival

Arina saw success at a young age, and at just 14 at the Euro Youth Olympic Festival (summer) she swept the freestyle events 100-800 and the relays as a member of team Russia, both female and mixed, garnering her 8 golds throughout the meet.

2014 European Junior Championships

Arina once again earned all golds, this time winning the 100-400 freestyles, all 3 women’s relays, and the mixed 4×100 free relay, walking away with a total of 7 wins.

2015 World Junior Championships/European Games

Arina continued her streak of hefty medal hauls in 2015, first starting with the European Games in Batu. There she earned golds in the 200 free, 400 free, and all 5 relays, as well as taking home a silver in the 100 free as well. Later that year in Singapore at the world JR champs, she brought home 6 more medals, including 1 gold (mixed 4×100 medley), 2 silver (200 free and 4×100 free), and 3 bronze (100 free, 4×200 free, mixed 4×100 free).

2016 Olympic Games

Arina qualified to compete for Russia in Rio, and swam the 200 free. She placed 18th in prelims, just outside of what it took to make it back for semi finals. She also placed 20th in the 400 free. As a member of the 4×200 relay, she helped them qualify 4th in prelims and break a national record in the process. However, in finals they faed to 6th.

2017 World University Games

At the summer universiade, Arina once again scored in numerous freestyle events. She helped Russia secure a gold in the 4×200 relay as she anchored them to a come from behind victory against the US. She also aided in their silver in the 4×100 free relay, and earned double bronze in the 100 and 200 free.

2018 European Championships

In Glasgow Arina earned a hat trick of medals, including gold in the 4×100 medley relay (which she swam on in prelims), silver in the 4×200 free relay, and bronze in the mixed 4×100 free relay.
