Bellarmine’s Sims, FGCU’s Halmai & Nelson Win CCSA Weekly Swim & Dive Awards

Charlotte, NC  Bellarmine’s Matthew Sims wins the CCSA Swimmer of the week at the turn of the new year. Matthew, along with Daniel, his twin brother, both made admirable contributions in their meet against Evansville on Janurary 11. Matthew Sims made dominant performances in the 200 and 100 butterfly, beating out second place by five seconds in the 200M race.

CCSA Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Charlotte, NC – Florida Gulf Coast sweeps the CCSA Swimmer and Diver of the Week honorees on the women’s circuit. The Eagles’ Petra Halmai and Delaney Nelson both put up impressive numbers in their meet against Miami, winning three races in the process. The Hungarian swimmer also put up her best time in the 200 Butterfly. On the Diving side, Delaney Nelson put up the team’s best numbers in the 1M dive with a score of 239.18, a significant improvement for the diver.

CCSA Women’s Swimmer of the Week 

Petra Halmai – FGCU – Fifth Year Sr., Dombovar, Hungary 

  • 200 Medley Relay – Breast 29.15
  • 200 Fly – 2:04.40
  • 200 Breast – 2:18.97
  • 400 IM – 4:30.81

Petra led the way for the Eagles against ACC foe, Miami. Starting with the fastest breaststroke split on the 200 medley relay, Halmai’s three event wins outpaced both programs on the day. Her 200 fly was a season best time, moving to 4th in the conference.

CCSA Women’s Diver of the Week 

 Delaney Nelson – FGCU – Junior, Cincinnati, OH

  • 1m – 4th 239.18
  • 3m – 5th 222.53

Competing against three of the best divers in the NCAA, Delaney held her own, posting scores that were both 20 points higher than her last duel meet performance. Her continued consistent improvement leads the Eagle divers as they continue to perform well against some of the best divers in the nation.
