Becca Meyer’s world record in the S12 400 IM headlined day one of the 2019 U.S. Paralympic National Championships.
Meyers, 25, went 5:17.81 to down Trischa Zorn‘s previous record from 1990 by a whopping 12 seconds (previous record 5:29.76). She split 1:09.62/1:24.61/1:33.47/1:10.11, and was the only S12 woman entered in the event (which was swum during the prelims session as a timed final).

Six additional swimmers set American records on day one.
In a timed final in prelims, Tyler Austin (SB14) and Samantha Tubbs (S9) set American records in the 200 breast.
Tubbs, 20, went 2:58.83, splitting 40/80/45.36/47.04/45.63. Twelve-year-old Adelaide Gassman was the only other entrant in the multi-class event and went 3:36.19. Austin, 18, went 2:58.23 to take the SB14 win over Alexander Quesada-Amor (3:08.35). Austin split 39.44/44.52/46.37/47.80.
In prelims of the women’s multi-class 50 back, 29-year-old Elizabeth Marks went 38.99, a new American record.
The men’s 400 free saw two American records go down on Friday: from S6 Adin Williams and S14 Jonathan Pierce.
Williams, 19, split 1:17.91/1:26.54/1:26.39/1:21.56 win the close S6 race of Connor Gioffreda (5:35.79). In prelims, 26-year-old Pierce split 1:03.97/1:11.16/1:11.94/1:11.33 for a 4:38.40 — he did not swim it again in finals.
Williams was among the four athletes who won multiple titles Friday, also winning the S6 50 fly. The others were Mikaela Jenkins (S10 100 fly and 400 free), Jessica Long (s8 100 fly and 400 free), Liam Smith (S7 50 fly and 400 free).
The final American record of the day went Ethan Morrobel in the men’s S13 100 fly. Morrobel, the only S13 entered, went 1:07.17, splitting 30.08/37.09.
