Beaver Attacks Swimmer Again

The Poughkeepsie Journal has reported a “rabid beaver attack” in the Delaware River.

If you have not been following the “summer of the beaver” trend, that is attack number three. Yahoo News, Associated Press and other major media outlets have picked up these odd stories, taking them worldwide.

The culprit

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, this time a Boy Scout leader from NY is the victim, Normand Brousseau, a 51-year old.  On the second of August, he was swimming in eastern Pennsylvania when a beaver bit him in the chest, arm, hand, leg and buttock. Normand managed to fight back and stop the creature from causing further damage, but he needed help being pulled to shore by a fellow Scout. Apparently Normand was clinching the animal tight – “around its bottom jaw as tightly as I could” – and could not make his way to safety on his own.

Normand threw the beaver onto dry ground where Scouts killed the animal with rocks.

The following day a doctor confirmed that the beaver in fact had rabies.

Like the other the beaver attack reports, local “health officials issued a statement that a rabid beaver attack is highly unusual.”
