Aussie 2017 World C’ships Team Tracker: Day 5 Qualifiers

2017 AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2017 Australian Swimming Championships have concluded, with the Budapest qualifiers truly a mixed bag containing both seasoned veterans, as well as rising stars. Below we’ve listed out the selection criteria as laid out by Swimming Australia, Ltd, but note that there is still flexibility via coaching discretion.

The Aussie brain trust may decide to qualify someone who didn’t necessarily meet the Aussie-mandated standard if they feel the swimmer can still perform at the World Championships.  As such, we won’t know the final roster until released by Swimming Australia.

Per Swimming Australia’s selection criteria, a maximum team size of 52 athletes (26 male, 26 female) will be selected for Budapest. First and second place finishers in the ‘A’ final of individual Olympic events in Brisbane qualify for a spot on the roster, provided they swim a time that equals or betters the Swimming Australia qualifying mark listed below:

They’ve certainly erred on the side of caution as regards ‘cover’ for all relays but, in fairness, just about all the ‘discretionary calls” that will see people swimming events where they didnt make QT have gone to the younger swimmers who may/may not take advantage of the opportunity that has been extended to them.… Read more »
