I think Bottom was a great pick. I think a lot of you in this discussion are 1 dimensional by looking at the number of athletes a Coach has. But, Mike Bottom’s specialty isn’t workout writing…his specialty is team culture for both men’s and women’s team at Michigan…a national powerhouse for consecutive number of years. Marsh and Bottom are close friends and I believe the choice was based around Bottom’s ability to unite a group of young athletes for a singular objective. Ya’ll need to stop squabbling and do your home work or at least ask an insider. And Reese declined.

Open Water Olympic Coach Vogt should be being included in these lists of US coaching staff

M Duncan Scott – despite in the U.S. the propensity to treat them as the same, open water and pool swimming teams are not the same team.

You can read about coach Vogt’s appointment as the head coach of the U.S. Open Water swimming team in this article: https://swimswam.com/catherine-vogt-named-2016-u-s-olympic-swimming-team-open-water-head-coach/

Why are there no women swim coaches on this list? That is so F in wrong. I guess it’s for the same reason that there are no women swimming the 1500. The rules don’t allow it. Time for a change.

Can’t believe they didn’t name Eddie Reese

They did ask Eddie and he declined. No idea how or why Bottom is on this staff. Josh White yes, Bottom. No.

My 5cents …
Schooling would have Coach Sergio Lopez there as part of the Singapore Set Up – as will Cordes. So Coach Sergio wil be an outside contributor to Team USA

Don’t you think Eddie had more of a contribution shaping Schooling at Texas?

What’s your point?

Sergio Lopez is Singapore’s national head coach, Eddie Reese is not.

Eddie’s credentials for head or assistant coach for the team are unquestionable. He has four current or past men on this team. If he chose or signaled he was not interested – fine. I can not believe USA would not want the best coaches PERIOD! I hope he attends…

What was your point about Sergio being an “outside contributor” there at the meet? On the deck? Pre-race to Cordes? This is team competition! Are you saying US Olympic Coaches could/would be outside contributors to foreign swimmers AT THE MEET? Vice Versa?

Coley Stickels can flat out coach. He’s been doing it for years and gets little recognition. He should have been on this staff without question.

I agree he’s a great coach, but I don’t think he should’ve been named without question. I mean Eddie Reese should be on that list before coley.

Many of the coaches attend even if they aren’t on the staff.
