Arrowhead, McFarland Lead First Wisconsin High School Rankings

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (WISCA) has released its first rankings of the 2015 girls high school season, with defending state champs Arrowhead staying atop Division 1 and McFarland sitting first in Division 2.

You can see the full polls here, and we’ve also reposted them below.

Hartland Arrowhead, who won last year’s Division I (big schools) title by over 100 points, is coming off of a big win at the prestigious Maroon & Gold Invite across the border in Minnesota.

Arrowhead topped Minnesota powers Edina and Minnetonka by 64 and 134.5, respectively, winning a host of events.

Seniors Sarah ‘Rocky’ Laabs and Megan Doty each won two individual events. Laabs, who was twice a Wisconsin state runner-up to top-ranked recruit Katie Drabot last year, won the 200 and 500 frees, and Doty, another two-event state runner-up took the 200 IM and 100 fly.

Middleton, 6th last year at state, has risen to #2 in the rankings. Verona Area, featuring national high school record-holding butterflyer Beata Nelson, sits third. Drabot’s Cedarburg team is fourth.

In Division 2, for the state’s smaller schools, McFarland moved up to the #1 spot after winning the Long Course Meters Elkhorn Invite in dominating fashion. McFarland won 9 0f 11 events.

Freshman Alex Moderski is looking like an exciting young talent for McFarland after sweeping the 50 and 100 frees by huge margins. Senior Sara Hagen also won two individuals (100 fly, 100 breast) and junior Marissa Wolff did the same (200 free, 500 free).

Both Hagen and Wolff were state runners-up last year, while McFarland took 4th overall. The top 3 returning teams did not appear on the poll yet this week.
