FAIRFAX, Va. – Behind 11 event victories, the Army West Point women’s swimming and diving team captured dual victories over American, George Mason and Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon at the Jim McKay Natatorium.

The Black Knights (7-2) defeated host George Mason 184-111, while coming out victorious against Old Dominion 199-96 and Patriot League foe American 213.5-78.5.

ARMY NOTABLES

  • The Black Knights won 11 events at the meet.
  • Army kicked off competition with a first-place showing in the 200 medley relay. Cecelia Croman, Kara Wineinger, Whitney Chang and Bailey Smith paced the event at 1:45.53.
  • Isabelle Malinowski highlighted the 200 free by winning at 1:56.41 before going on to capture the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.82. Marie Docken followed her in the 200 fly with a second-place time of 2:08.77.
  • Croman (56.94) and Lauren Carag (57.81) finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 back. Croman touched the wall at 56.94, while Carag came in at 57.81.
  • The 100 breast went to Wineinger after she finished with a time of 1:03.98. The senior later won the 200 breast at 2:20.26.
  • In the 50 free, it was Lexus Van Hoven topping the competition after she touched the wall at 24.31. She later won the 100 free with a time of 53.27.
  • Serica Hallstead continued her dominance on the boards, placing first on the 3-meter with a score of 266.10, before going on to win on the 1-meter at 275.60.
  • Chang was the top finisher in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 57.76.

The Army West Point men picked up a trio of dual victories after defeating George Mason, American and Old Dominion on Saturday afternoon at the Jim McKay Natatorium.

The Black Knights (7-2) defeated host George Mason 176-119, while coming out on top opposite Old Dominion 213-82 and Patriot League foe American 220-61.

ARMY NOTABLES

  • The Black Knights finished the dual season with a perfect 7-0 road record.
  • Army won 11 events at the meet.
  • The foursome of Brian McKenrick, Evan Zhang, Kevin Doo and Josh Zock got things started with a win in the 200 medley relay after finishing at 1:31.53.
  • Tom Ottman bested the competition in the 1650 free with his time of 15:56.58. The senior later went on to take second in the 200 free at 1:41.75, just a little over two seconds ahead of Graham Ungrady 1:43.77.
  • He continued to shine and won the 500 free with a time of 4:36.02.
  • McKenrick highlighted the 100 back with a first-place finish after finishing at 49.66.
  • Army swept the top-three spots in the 100 breast once Zhang led the way at 56.18. Brady Almand (57.15) and Lawrence Quintana (57.19) followed the freshman.
  • The 200 fly went to James Bilbrey after he finished first with a time of 1:51.12.
  • Brandon McCredie (21.01), Nathan Hein (21.28) and Hogan Harper (21.30) finished in the top-three in the 50 free.
  • On the 1-meter board, Daniel Alaimo qualified for NCAA Zone Diving Championships after finishing second with a total score of 300.85.
  • Kevin Doo and Hein finished first and second, respectively in the 100 free. Doo won the event at 46.00, while Hein followed at 46.32. Doo later was victorious in the 100 fly, finishing at 48.62.
  • The 200 breast was highlighted by Ty Dang‘s time of 2:02.98, which was good for first.

WENDER’S WORDS
“It was a great day for our program,” head coach Mickey Wender said. “We were intense, focused and together. Our senior leadership went above and beyond to ensure that we accomplished all of our goals and beat everybody. Every coach and cadet-athlete did a tremendous job. This was a total team effort. We got contributions from everyone on the roster. It’s a great way to head into the championship season.”

FAIRFAX, Va.– Kyra Manson had a second-place finish in the women’s 100-yard butterfly to lead American University performances Saturday at a triple-dual swimming and diving meet hosted by George Mason.

The Eagles dropped dual-meet scoring pairings to the host Patriots, Army West Point and Old Dominion.

MEET NOTES

• Manson, a sophomore transfer, went 57.97 in the women’s 100 fly, losing by 0.21 seconds to Army’s Whitney Chang. Eleanor Felton (59.20) finished fourth to add to AU’s numerous top-five placings on the day.

• The AU women had a number of third-place finishes by different student-athletes.

Alex Brosvik (200 free, 1:57.02), Lily Koenig (100 back, 58.50), Alex Feys (200 fly, 2:09.60), Manson (50 free, 24.75) and Ryan Jolley (400 IM, 4:45.36) each finished third to lead the Eagles in their events.

• Manson, Felton, Ellen Johnson and Brosvik combined to go 3:36.66 in the 400 freestyle relay, placing second in the final event of the day.

Scott Callander had the best individual finishes of the day for the AU men. He placed fifth in the 100 butterfly (51.58) after posting a seventh in the 200 fly (1:57.50).

Liam Riebling was seventh in the 100 fly (51.80) for the Eagles.

Matt Bean (54.34 in 100 back) and Garrett Sooter (4:25.81 in 400 IM) were eighth in their events.

NEXT UP

American has its last tuneup for the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, Feb. 2 when it participates in the Bison Invitational. The meet will be at the same Bucknell facility where the PL meet will be held Feb. 20 to 23.

Fairfax, Va. – The George Mason swimming and diving teams concluded the home portion of the schedule on Saturday at the Jim McKay Natatorium.

The Mason women’s team defeated American (187-105) and Old Dominion (185-113), but fell to Army (184-111).

The Mason men’s team also went 2-1 on the day.  The Patriots earned victories over American (246-50) and Old Dominion (192-108) and dropped their contest against Army (176-119).

The Patriot’s women’s finished the season with an overall record of 8-2, including a 5-1 mark against Atlantic 10 opponents.  The men’s squad finished with a record of 7-1 and went 4-0 against the A-10.

The combination of seniors Marla Albanese and Brittany Murphy, junior Rachel Chalsma and sophomore Shannon Glesing began the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:45.53).

Glesing took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.80), while freshman Ana Kuzemka was 10th (1:12.95) in the event.  Glesing also made the podium in the 200-yard breaststroke, placing third (2:24.92).

The Patriots claimed three of the top-six spots in the 50-yard freestyle.  Murphy touched the wall second (24.58), Chalsma finished fifth (24.77) and Albanese was sixth (24.78).

In the 100-yard freestyle, Albanese took second (53.60), with freshman Ariana Lewis sixth (54.45) and junior Melissa Carroll ninth (54.79).

Freshman Megan Cummins won her team-leading sixth event of the season, taking the top spot on the podium in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:36.61).  Freshman Sophie McKinley placed second (18:03.62) and sophomore Autumn Boxley was third (18:06.20) as the Patriots took three of the top-five spots in the event.

Cummins also made the podium with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.69) and McKinley finished second in the 400-yard IM (4:37.30).

Freshman Laura Hodge took second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.49), finishing less than a second back of first.  Carroll placed sixth (1:57.71), while Cummins was 11th (2:00.52) in the event.

In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Annie McNenny finished fifth (2:10.85), while classmate Hannah Milikich was sixth (2:12.16).

In the 100-yard backstroke, Milikich placed eighth (59.51) and Murphy was ninth (59.78).

In the deep end of the pool, sophomore Marina Toone took second in the one-meter springboard with a score of 251.60, while classmate Alyx Bridis placed sixth (186.35). In the three-meter, Toone was second (233.40) and Bridis placed fourth (224.65).

On the men’s side, the team of senior Michael Pettinichi, junior Logan Eubanks, sophomore Andres Alarcon and freshman Nick Ashton placed second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:31.53).

Pettinichi placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.53) and seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.94).

Alarcon placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (51.10).

In the 50-yard freestyle, Mason took three of the top-seven spots.

Ashton was fourth (21.39), junior Christopher Stankiewicz placed sixth (21.63) and freshman Will Rastatter was seventh (21.66).

Sophomore Drake Moretz took the top spot on the podium in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.15), while Ashton finished fourth (1:44.72) and freshman Jacob Miller was eighth (1:46.15).  For Moretz, it was his sixth first-place finish of the season.

Moretz earned a second trip to the podium with a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (46.77).  Miller placed eighth (48.06) and Rastatter was ninth (48.53).

The Patriots finished two-three in the 200-yard butterfly, with Alarcon placing second (1:53.76) and sophomore Dylan Peck third (1:55.24).

Junior Ryan Donnelly won the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.16), with senior Leo Rivoal finishing eighth (2:00.48) and junior Logan Eubanks ninth (2:00.96).

Donnelly also swam to a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (50.67).

Junior Attila Kiss placed fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:14.59), while freshman Timothy McKinley was eighth (17:05.79) in the event.  Kiss notched a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.23).

Sophomore Dylan Peck finished second in the 400-yard IM (4:14.51).

Mason had a solid day in the diving events.

Freshman Colin Graves won the three-meter with a score of 313.45, while junior Gerald Hodges, Jr. placed second (272.45) and junior Joe Amato was sixth (248.90).  In the one-meter, Hodges placed first with a NCAA Zone qualifying score of 350.35 and Graves was fourth (283.30).

The Patriots are back in action at the Atlantic 10 Championships Feb. 20-23 at the SPRIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

FAIRFAX, Va. – Old Dominion University men’s and women’s swimming and diving defeated American University Saturday morning in a quad meet along with Army and George Mason. The Monarchs fell to George Mason and Army.

Jacklyn VandePoel gave the Monarchs their first win of the day with a triumph in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.69. She added her second win of the day, this one in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:05.23.

Emilie Petit won the 400 IM in 4:31.84 and finished second in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:23.37.

Nick Wukovits earned the first men’s win of the day with a 4:12.41 in the 400 IM.
