Arizona Gold wins a pair of titles on night 1 of Four Corners Sectional

The Four Corners Sectional in Austin, Texas kicked off with a pair of wins for Arizona Gold Swimming in just four day 1 events.

Arizona Gold bookended the session with wins, one in each gender. Adriana Palomino opened things up with a 9:50.80 victory in the 1000 free, just besting RallySport’s Christine Jennings. Palomino is a commit to the University of New Mexico for next season.

The other Arizona Gold win came in the men’s 800 free relay, where Mark Jurek, Brent Creager, Antonio Ramirez and Ben Olszewski combined to go 6:38.78, a new meet record. That was led by a 1:37.90 leadoff split from Jurek, currently a high school junior.  Olszewski was also 1:38.96 on the anchor leg.

The men’s 1000 free went to Florida Gator alum Yoelvis “Joey” Pedraza. The Cuban national went 9:01.67, also a new meet record, and a win by about three seconds over Arizona Gold’s Ramirez.

Oregon’s Tualatin Hills club ran away with the women’s 800 free relay, getting a 1:46.89 leadoff split from 16-year-old Keaton Blovad. Also on the squad were Ryan Falk, Lisa Kaunitz and Sara Metzsch, who anchored in 1:47.66.
