Argentina Will Send 17 Swimmers to Pan American Games; Just 3 to Worlds

Argentina has announced a roster of 17 swimmers for the 2019 Pan American Games and 3 swimmers for the 2019 World Championships.

Pool swimming at the Pan American Games will take place at the end of the 2-week long multi-sport event. Specifically, they will run from August 6th-10th in Lima, Peru.

Argentina ranks 4th all-time in the Pan American Games swimming medals table, behind only the USA, Brazil, and Canada. In 2015, that included a gold and a silver from Federico Grabich in the 100 and 200 freestyles, respectively; and a silver in the men’s 100 fly from Santiago Grassi. Both swimmers will return for the 2019 edition.

The women’s team will be headlined by Julia Sebastian, who is the South American Record holder in the 200 breaststroke, and Macarena Ceballos, the Argentine Record holder in the 100 breaststroke.

Argentina is sending their primary roster to the Pan American Games; only one swimmer will appear at both that meet and the World Championships: Roberto Strelnikov, who has twice this year lowered the National Record in the 50 fly. He’ll be joined at the World Championships in Gwangju by Julia Arino and Joaquin Moreno, both of whom specialize in open water.

The World Championships will begin on July 12th in Gwangju, South Korea.
