Another Swim, Another Record at SEA Games for Schooling; Sidiq Takes Second Sprint Title

Another swim is in the books for American-based Joseph Schooling at the 2013 South East Asian Games. His latest conquest came in the 400 free relay, with a 3:21.74.

There, he combined with Clement LimDanny Yeo and Darren Lim to both win the race at break the SEA Games record that had been 3:23.22. Schooling anchored in 49.72, with the 15-year old sensation Lim coming in just before him in 50.77.

Malaysia took 2nd in that race, and Thailand placed 3rd, with only four relays finishing legally. That win adds to earlier victories and Meet Records in the 100 fly, the 200 IM, and the 800 free relay.

The 4th day out of 5 has  been completed from Myanmar, and several other swimmers have continued to have big impacts upon this meet.

Indonesia’s Tirady Fauzi Sidiq took a tight men’s 50 free final in 23.12, which just out-touched Singapore’s Russell Ong (23.14). Thailand’s Gavin Lewis placed 3rd in 23.41, and Darren Lim came in 5th in 23.58.

That win for Sidiq adds to his earlier victory in the 100 free,and he was also the runner-up to Schooling in the 100 fly. This 50 free is the first of his three medal races in which he hasn’t broken the National Record.

The men’s 200 breaststroke was a Thailand 1-2, with Nuttapong Ketin winning in 2:13.32, and Radomyos Matjiur taking 2nd in 2:17.77. That marks Ketin’s third-straight SEA Games title in this event, despite struggling a bit in his 100 earlier in the meet to miss the podium altogether.

Vietnam’s Quang Lam gave his country their first men’s title of the meet on Sunday, topping the 1500 free in 15:39.44.

Thailand’s Natthanan Junkrajang won the women’s 200 free in 2:01.03, topping Singapore’s Ting Quah (UCLA – 2:01.74) and Lynette Lim (USC – 2:02.62), both of whom are American-based swimmers.

Christina Loh from Malaysia won the women’s 200 breaststroke in 2:32.56; and the relay of Tao LiSamantha YeoTing Quah, and Amanda Lim combined to win the women’s 400 medley relay for Singapore in 4:13.02.
