Another good day for Brazil at the South American Youth Championships

After collecting 18 medals on the first day of the competition Brazil added another 17 medals, including 12 gold, on the second evening of the South American Youth Championships.

Andre Santos was the most productive of the Brazilians winning both the 200 backstroke (2:09.16) and the 200 IM (2:11.48) in the juvenile A category (14-15 year olds).

The Brazilian men also broke the juvenile B category (16-18 year olds) record in the 4 x 100 medley relay winning in a time of 3:46.57.

Venezuelan Jesus Lopez set the only other championship record on the evening in the juvenile B category winning the 50 freestyle in a time of 23.02, “I am very happy with the result. It was a very difficult race because my rivals Suriname and Brazil are also very good. It was a very tight finish, but I struggled and won,” said Lopez.
