Amherst Secures Verbal Commitment from SCSC’s Sophia Harrison

San Jose, California’s Sophia Harrison has indicated she will swim for Amherst College next fall. A senior at Archbishop Mitty High School, Harrison is a National Merit Commended Scholar, a NISCA All American (200 and 400 free relay), and a Futures qualifier in the 200 butterfly. She swims year-round for the Santa Clara Swim Club and is an Athlete Representative for Pacific Swimming

Harrison finished 14th in the 100 back (58.82) and 21st in the 100 fly (58.67) at the 2017 CIF-Central Coast Section Championships in May. She led off the third-place 400 free relay and swam a leg on the fourth-place 200 free relay (24.48). Harrison went on to the California State Meet and picked up a personal-best time in the 100 free (53.00) leading off the Mitty 400 free relay.

In club swimming, Harrison went best times in the LCM 50 free and 200 back at the Summer Superleague LC Championships, and in the LCM 50 back at Far Westerns. Her best SCY times include:

  • 100 back- 58.56
  • 200 back- 2:07.20
  • 100 fly- 58.28
  • 200 fly- 2:06.09
  • 200 IM- 2:08.62
