Americans Win Big Money, Hosszu Still Running Away With Cash Earnings

Another day, and another $51,000 was handed out on the FINA World Cup Series. This time, though, with the American junior crew and a huge Russian contingent in tow, there was a much wider distribution of that money.

Australia still wound up with a huge pile of cash, with $8,000 on the day, but the Russians ($7,000) and Americans ($6,750) won more money than they have on any other single day of this meet so far, thanks in part to the amateurs who aren’t even going to collect their winnings. The Japanese also cashed in big with $7,000 of their own.

Katinka Hosszu didn’t have quite as huge of a day as she has up until this point of the meet, as she no longer rolled through the 800 free as she has in the past, but she did still get two wins and a 3rd-place finish for a cool $3,500: more than anybody else.

Winners of each event gets $1,500, the runner-up gets $1,000, and the 3rd-place finisher gets $500.

Keep in mind that these are earnings, not necessarily money that the athletes have taken. Athletes marked with asterisks are ones we presume to be retaining their eligibility for NCAA swimming based on publicly available information.
