Alexei Sancov Blasts 4:16 500, Wins by 12 Seconds at Austin Sectionals – Day 3

Day 3 of the 2018 Speedo Super Sectionals in Austin, Texas, featured finals for the men’s and women’s 100 breast, 500 free, 100 fly, and 400 free relay.

The Terrapins’ Emily Lo topped the event in 1:01.43 (29.34/32.09). Colorado Springs’ Edenna Chen, 16, took second in 1:10.86, and Highlands Ranch’s Holley Dennis, 15, was third in 1:02.31. AQUA’s Elijah Warren won the men’s race in 54.31 (25.22/29.09), followed by Foothills‘ Jack Moranetz in 55.28, followed by TOPS’ William Goodwin in 55.95.

Kingfish’ Ashley Loomis won the women’s 500 free in 54.70/58.19/58.99/1:00.40/59.08. Crawfish Aquatics’ Jolee Liles took second in 4:52.49, and Utah Valley’s Makayla Cazier was third in 4:52.59. The Terrapins’ Alexei Sancov, who went 1:32.80 in the 200 free yesterday, won the 500 in 4:16.08 (47.93/51.22/52.10/52.74/52.09). That time is good for the #19 performance all-time in the 17-18 rankings. Michael Lincoln was second in 4:28.26, and 21-year-old Jack McLaughlin was third in 4:29.83.

Miriam Guevara, of El Paso, won the women’s 100 in 52.47, splitting 24.58/27.89. AQUA’s Olivia Theall took second in 54.24, and Meredith Rees of Pikes Peak was third in 54.48. Colorado Spring’s Kyle Leach won the men’s race in 48.33 (22.68/25.65). TOPS’ Seth Hendrix was second in 48.85, and Utah Valley’s Anthony Puertas took third in 49.05.

TOPS’ women’s team of Jenna Smith, Lillianna Brooks, Anna Shaw, and Sydney Silver split 51.47/51.13/51.06/50.51 to win the 400 free relay in 3:24.17. Highlands Ranch was second in 3:24.5, and Colorado Springs was third in 3:26.09. The Terrapins’ men’s team of Matthew Fetterman, Alexei Sancov, Niklas Weigelt, and Andrew Rodriguez split 46.39/43.14/46.67/45.70. TOPS was second in 3:03.34, and South Metro was third in 3:03.41.
