Alabama Lands Verbal Commitment from RAYS Sprinter Isabella Matesa

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Isabella Matesa from Lebanon, Ohio has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Alabama for 2020-21. There, she’ll join Maddie Mechling, Reese Hazan, and Selina Reil in the class of 2024. Matesa is a senior at Ursuline Academy in Cincinnati. She placed fifth in the 50 free (23.42) and ninth in the 100 free (51.12) at the 2019 Ohio State High School Division I Championships last February. She also anchored the medley relay to a third-place finish with a split of 22.89 (22.86 in prelims) and led off the fourth-place 400 free relay (51.52). Her best times in the 50/100 free come from the 2019 high school district championships.

In club swimming, where she represents Mason Manta Rays, Matesa competed at Speedo Junior Nationals this summer on RAYS relays. She split 58.52 on the 4×100 free relay, 2:08.21 on the 4×200 free relay, and 58.41 on the end of the 400 medley relay. She went a best time in the 50m free (26.94) at Ohio Junior Olympics and in the 100m free (58.37) at Swim GSA’s Eastern Invitational in Greensboro.

Matesa will join a sprint program headed by new coach Coley Stickels, previously the associate head sprint coach at Indiana. It took 22.66 in the 50 free and 49.63 in the 100 free to score at 2019 SEC Championships.

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Alabama! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and teammates who have supported me throughout this process! I cannot wait to be a part of such an amazing school and team! Roll Tide!🐘
