Alabama Commit Kailyn Winter Posts 25.61 50 Meter Free at Roseville Sectionals

While temperatures rose to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in Roseville, California, swimmers continued to drop lifetime best times on the final day of the California-Nevada Sectionals.

Quicksilver’s Kailyn Winter won 50 free (25.78). The Alabama class of 2025 commit was the only swimmer to crack 26.00. Her 25.61 in prelims ranks her#44 out of the all-time fastest 17-18 year-olds in the event and shaves .04 off her lifetime best time from the U.S. Olympic Trials Wave I.

13-year-old Kayla Han of La Mirada Armada claimed her 3rd individual win of the meet in the 200 IM  by taking about 1.5 seconds off her lifetime best time from May. She touched the wall at 2:18.91, ranking herself #60 out of the all-time fastest 13-14 year-olds in the event.

Alto Swim Club had a few victories on Sunday night including in the 50 free where Stanford rising junior Leon MacAlister led a 1-2 Alto finish with a time of 22.88, shaving .13 off his lifetime best time from May. Neel Roy, also a rising junior at Stanford, finished in 2nd place with a time of 23.42, within half a second of his best time.

16-year-old Simon Lins of Piedmont Swim Team placed 3rd (23.44), beating his previous lifetime best by .15 to rank himself #65 all-time in his age group in a tie with Virginia commit Jack Aikins.

Earlier, Alto’s Jonathan Affeld claimed 1st in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.06, fending off Daniel Comforti (2:05.07). Stanford rising sophomore Affeld came within .4 of his lifetime best from the U.S. Olympic Trials Wave II while Comforti was about 3 seconds off his best time from 2018 Summer Nationals.

By the end of the meet, Palo Alto Standford Aquatics earned the most combined team points.

Other Event Winners and Highlights:

  • Socal Aquatics Association’s Ashlyn Fiorilli won the 800 free (9:03.11), about 6.5 seconds off her lifetime best time from 2019 Summer Nationals. She fended off a wave of three La Mirada Armada swimmers: Rutgers’ Cathryn Salladin (9:07.54), UCSB’s Maelynn Lawrence (9:08.15) and UCLA’s Katie Sulkevich (9:10.02).
  • Quicksilver’s Mason Carlton, an Indiana commit, won the 1500 free with a time of 16:03.58, about 11.5 seconds off his lifetime best time from 2019. Lakeridge Swim Team’s Luke Hobson took 2nd place (16:06.12) by shaving 2 seconds off his best time from 2019 Futures.
