Alabama Celebrates 2016-17 Season With Annual Awards Banquet

The Crimson Tide swimming and diving teams celebrated the 2016-17 season with its annual year-end awards banquet Friday evening.

In his fifth year as Alabama’s head coach Dennis Pursley and his staff handed out a number of awards following a season that saw the men’s team post its third straight top-10 NCAA finish and the women once again scored at the NCAA Championships.

The following individual award were handed out during Friday’s festivities:

·         Coaches Award: Will Freeman & Mia Nonnenberg

·         Most Outstanding Swimmer: Anton McKee, Connor Oslin & Bailey Scott

·         Most Outstanding Diver: Brent Sagert & Kara Fredlock

·         Most Valuable: Robert Howard & Alexis Preski

·         Most Dedicated: Daniel Kober & Nicole Raicik

·         Best Competitor: Laurent Bams & Hannah Musser

·         Leadership Award: Carlo Rezzonico & Mia Nonnenberg

·         Most Spirited: Jack Hadjiconstantinou

A total of 10 men and women combined for 22 All-America honors in 2017. The Crimson Tide also continued its assault on the school record board, breaking a dozen UA marks, including eight individual and four relays records.

Alabama’s academic success has been no less impressive Both the Crimson Tide men and women tallied better than a 3.5 team grade point average in the fall, well over the 3.31 average of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams, which requires a 3.0 team GPA.

This fall, Alabama ranked first among SEC teams, fifth among all Division I men’s teams and was one of just two teams finish in the top-10 at the 2017 NCAA Championships and among the top 10 by team GPA. On the women’s side of the academic slate, Alabama was 20th among all Division I programs with a 3.55 GPA, which also ranked the Tide second among SEC schools and fifth among schools that scored at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
