Akron Women’s Team Activities Briefly Suspended Due To Hazing Allegations

The University of Akron has confirmed that all women’s swimming & diving team activities were briefly suspended due to hazing allegations, though the team has now returned to full practices.

The school confirmed Monday that a suspension had taken place from September 15 until September 27.

“The Athletics Department suspended team activities for a short period following allegations of potential hazing, but the team has now returned to full practice,” a school spokesperson said.

The matter has been deferred to Akron’s Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards for review, and no other information is available at this time.

The University of Akron women’s team placed second at the 2021 MAC Championships in April, finishing seven points shy of the University of Buffalo. The Zips also put three points on the board at the 2021 Women’s Division I NCAA Championships one month prior in March.

Akron will open its 2021-22 season with an intrasquad meet on Oct. 1. The team will then host the Akron Zips Classic Oct. 15-16 before taking on Miami at home on Oct. 30.

My daughter was hazed her freshman year on the Akron swim team. Trust me, it’s real. I couldn’t believe what she told me they did to the freshman that year. It’s too bad they turned a blind eye to this

Has Akron hired a new assistant coach? What’s the situation there?

Kids, this can’t happen anymore. Have fun and do your thing and have the time of your life, but no hazing BS. When stuff like this goes down, programs get cut, good people lose their jobs and there are less opportunities for swimmers and divers.

Yes and we build a society of crybaby wimps who will always blame others and take no accountability for themselves. I say stand up, just say no, come on man!!!

Per my 16 year old………..hazing is not kids being kids. It’s unfortunate you believe hazing is ok.

It’s unfortunate you do not believe teams pursue activities which might fringe upon hazing which in reality are positive team building which levens unity.
