AgonSwim Weekly Wonders of Age Group Swimming – 12/23/2015

There were only a few meets over the weekend, but they produced some very fast age group results. Here are our Weekly Wonders for December 18-20, 2015.

Megan Keil, 15, Wichita Aqua Shocks: 50y free (23.48) – Keil picked up her first Winter Juniors cut when she made finals in the 50 yard freestyle at the King Marlin Swim Club Pro-Am Classic. Keil came into the meet seeded with 24.22; she went 23.74 in prelims to make top-8, then 23.48 to finish sixth overall. She also went best times in the 200 free, 100 back, 50/100 breast, and 100 fly.

Hayley Pike, 13, Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawgs: 1000y free (10:03.37) – Pike was another first-time Winter Juniors qualifier, this time in the 1000 free at the American Energy 24th Annual Elite Pro-Am. Pike dropped 6.5 seconds to finish second in the event. She was also second in the 1650, thanks to a 13.5-second improvement. Pike also went PBs in the 200/500 free and 100/200 fly.

Michael Petrides, 15, Kamehameha Swim Club: 1650y free (16:08.96) – Petrides improved his seed time by 25.5 seconds and won the boys’ 15-16 mile at the Hawaiian Swimming Age Group SCY Championships. He also won the 1000 free with a best time. Petrides came away from the weekend with new times in the 50/100/200/500/1000/1650 freestyles and the 100 fly.

Tyler Lu, 12, King Aquatic Club: 100y back (53.09) – Swimming at the Washington State Senior Championships, Lu won the consolation final in the 100 back with a time that is 6.8 seconds faster than at the same weekend last year. The 12-year-old also made the “A” final in the 50 back, the “B” in the 200 back, and the “C” in the 200 breast. He finished the meet with new times in the 50/100/200 back and 50/100/200 breast.

Kaitlin Harty, 18, YMCA of the North Shore: 200y back (1:50.68) – Harty won the 200 back with a best time by.6 at the New England Senior Championships presented by Greenwood Swimming. She also won the 1000 free, 100 back, and 100 fly, and went home with personal bests in the 50/100/1000 free, 50/200 back, and 100 fly.

Zoe Skirboll, 11, Franklin Area Swim Team: 100y breast (1:06.87) – Skirboll won the girls’ 11-12 50/100 free and 50/100 breast at the 54th Annual Christmas Meet Invitational hosted by Team Pittsburgh at Joe C. Trees Pool at the University of Pittsburgh. She broke a meet record in the 50 breast that dated back to 1973, and took down three Allegheny Mountain LSC records (50 free, 50/100 breast). She finished the meet with new PBs in the 50/100/200 free, 50/100 breast, 50/100 fly, and 200/400 IM.

Olivia Bray, 14, Virginia Gators: 100y fly (53.67) – Bray swam the country’s fastest 100 fly of the week at the TPIT 54th Annual Christmas Meet. She won the girls’ 13-14 200 back and 100/200 fly, and earned personal best times in the 100/200 free, 50 back, 100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM.

River Wright, 14, Bluefish Swim Club: 200y IM (1:52.37) – Wright earned his first Winter Juniors cut in the 200 IM at the New England Senior Championships presented by Greenwood Swimming. He made “A” finals in the 50/200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200 IM. Wright improved his personal bests in the 50/100/200 free, 50/100 back, 100 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200 IM.

Keep your eye on two Ohio youngsters. Chase Swearingin (10) Ohio State Swim Club and Jarrett Payne (9) Springfield YMCA. Both will be swimming in a USA Invitation only swim meet in Indianapolis Jan 9&10
