As of the end of the Day 3 finals session, the University of North Carolina is winning the meet with 862 points, ahead of runner-up UVA by a margin of 23 points. The University of Virginia, the defending champions, may currently be in second, but they will certainly not give up the fight with another full day of competition tomorrow.

Although UNC did not pick up any event wins this evening, their depth was apparent in all the events (with the exception of the 100 breaststroke – they only had one swimmer in this event’s final). UVA, on the other hand, won three events. Leah Smith won the 200 freestyle, Courtney Bartholomew won the 100 backstroke, and the UVA relay of Bartholomew, Simon, Williamson, and Jones won the 400 medley relay.

With the third place team, Virginia Tech, sitting on 664 points (174 points behind UVA), tomorrow’s session of ACC’s could become a two horse race between UNC and UVA. Only time will tell how tomorrow’s events play out, and until then, it will be critical for each team to maximize their number of spots in the Day 4 finals session.

Team Rankings as of Day 3:

1) University of North Carolina 862.00
